چکیده

An analysis of spaceborne Global Positioning System reflectometry (GPS-R) data from the TechDemoSat-1 (TDS-1) satellite is carried out to image the ocean sea surface height (SSH). An SSH estimation algorithm is applied to GPS-R delay waveforms over two regions in the South Atlantic and the North Pacific. Estimatesmade fromTDS-1 overpasses during a 6month period are aggregated to produce SSHmaps of the two regions. The maps generally agree with the global DTU10 mean sea surface height. The GPS-R instrument is designed to make bistatic measurements of radar cross section for ocean wind observations, and its altimetric performance is not optimized. The differences observed betweenmeasured and DTU10 SSH can be attributed to limitations with the GPS-R instrument and the lack of precision orbit determination by the TDS-1 platform. These results represent the first observations of SSH by a spaceborne GPS-R instrument.

The Impact of Inter-Modulation Components on Interferometric GNSS-Reflectometry

The interferometric Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (iGNSS-R) exploits the full spectrum of the transmitted GNSS signal to improve the ranging performance for sea surface height applications. The Inter-Modulation (IM) component of the GNSS signals is an additional component that keeps the power envelope of the composite signals constant. This extra component has been neglected ...

The Space GPS Reflectometry Experiment On the UK Disaster Monitoring Constellation Satellite

A spaceborne GNSS reflectometry experiment is to be undertaken by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited with support from the British National Space Centre (BNSC) to investigate the reception of reflected GPS signals off the ocean for oceanography applications. The GPS receiver on the UK-DMC satellite has been modified to accommodate a downward (nadir) pointing high gain antenna, to send sampled ...

A Numerical Study on the Influence of Ocean Surfacewaves on Gps-reflected Signals

1. ABSTRACT The ability to investigate properties of the sea surface by means of navigation signals has recently received growing interest from the remote sensing community. This innovative technique is known as Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry (GNSS-R), and it relies on signals of opportunity transmitted from GNSS Constellations (e.g. GPS, Glonass, Galileo etc.), and reflected ...

On the influence of ocean waves on simulated GNSS-R delay-doppler maps

Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry (GNSS-R), is an established technique that exploits GNSS signals of opportunity reflected from the surface of the ocean, to look primarily at the ocean surface roughness. The strength of this technique, and the primary motivation to carry it forward, is in the fact that GNSS signals are available globally, all the time and over the long term, and...

On-Ground Retracking to Correct Distorted Waveform in Spaceborne Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry

Spaceborne Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) has been the research focus of Earth observation because of its unique advantages; however, there are still many challenges to be resolved. The reduction of the impact of the satellite motion on the GNSS-R waveform is the one of key technologies for spaceborne GNSS-R. The proposed delay retracking methods in existing literatur...
